Better signposting for Dublin 8

In Ireland we have had a bad name with visitors for a long time because of our lack of signposts.  We also have a problem getting return visits from tourists.  In recent years alot more signs have been put up around Dublin, but is quantity the problem, or is it quality?

Baby Sebastian - what can we learn?

The tragic case of baby Sebastian Pereira Kus  who fell to his death from a 4th floor window last week in Inchicore,  is saddening because so many things could have been done to avoid such an accident.  I too live with a 2 year old in a small apartment, and I have also had to watch her like a hawk and keep the windows locked.  Apartments in Dublin are not designed for families.  Concerns for profit and growth in the property sector seem to have been put before the concerns and needs of citizens for safe and comfortable homes.

State should stand by patients of private health clinics who got defective PIP implants

I am calling on the Minister for Health James Reilly to make arrangements for proper care to be given to patients who received defective breast implants. He also calls for strong and effective regulation of the medical devices industry in Europe to cut down on this sort of problem in the future.

We need new thinking on the children's hospital

The announcement a few weeks ago that the National Children's Hospital was denied planning permission was disappointing, but it was the right decision.  Once again, it shows how in Ireland our public bodies try to force something through without consulting properly with the public and looking at things in a long term way.  The planned hospital turned out to be a monster, with a lot of problems, including not even having everything on the same site.  It is now time for new thinking on the project.
